| On the voyage to Troy the Greek king Agamemnon sacrifices his own daughter Iphigenia to placate the goddess Artemis for the slaughter of a pregnant hare. I have also drawn on the example of Tamerlane, the 14th century tyrant from Samarkand who, as he moved about the country, would build towers of his victims’ heads. | |
